Control4 has launched 4Store, an online marketplace where homeowners can download apps that will assist with customization, functionality and interconnectivity of Control4 smart homes.
4Store offers applications specifically for smart home users, and can even be integrated with multiple household devices. For example, users can perform a variety of functions such as setting Kwikset deadbolt locks to managing energy usage with Eaton outlet monitors to making online dinner reservations.
Of course, Control4 customers can already do much of this from their interface at home, but 4Store is just another way for iPhone and iPod users to gain further accessibility and customization.
There are four types of applications that can be downloaded through 4Store:
- Enhanced Home Control Apps—designed specifically to enhance the control of third party devices that are installed in the home from companies such as Eaton, CardAcess, and Kwikset.
- Information Apps—these give information such as weather, news, blog readers or other RSS feeds.
- Social & Entertainment Apps—accesses social networks and websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, OpenTable, and Netflix. Or access games through your TV or touch screen such as Tetrad.
- User Interface Customization—these enable users to select a user interface theme, which allows users to personalize their Control4 systems to their liking.
The 4Store will be available to the general public in the first half of 2010. No specific date has been announced yet. Control4.com
