It Could Be Love
Need an ulterior motive to cajole her into saying “yes” to that tricked-out home theater you’ve been dreaming of?
Buy her this sweetheart of a chair and watch her swoon, because no woman can resist a heart-shaped bauble.
Designed by Verner Panton in 1959—and reissued by renowned furniture company Vitra in collaboration with the Panton estate—the Heart Cone Chair is a whimsical club chair in disguise.
“Most people spend their lives in dreary beige conformity, mortally afraid of using colors,” Panton said, in the mid-1950s.
“The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting.”
Tonus wool covers the seat cushion and chair frame, while stainless steel wraps the base. This piece of sculptural art, standing in at 35 inches high and 40.5 inches wide, is one of the first chairs exhibited in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Order it in truffle or chocolate if you like—it’s available in nine colors.
